Questions Ocala homeowners ask us

Insurance and licensing, prices, the bang and the red cord, surge-killed openers, permits, hurricane ratings, HOAs and golf-cart doors: the short answers. Anything we missed, call and ask.

Are you licensed and insured?

Insured, yes: general liability and workers' compensation, with the certificate available before the truck comes. Licensed is a different question here: Florida does not license garage door repair at the state level, so no repair company has a state garage door license. New-door installations are permitted by the City of Ocala or Marion County and done by an installer holding the County's garage door competency card, and ours are.

How fast can you come?

Same day for a door that won't open or close, usually within a day for everything else. Say emergency if a car is stuck inside or the door is stuck open and you go to the front of the line.

Do you charge for the visit?

A service call and diagnosis runs $79 to $129 and is waived when we do the repair. New-door and opener estimates are free.

How much does a broken spring cost?

About $225 to $375 for one torsion spring, $325 to $550 for a matched pair, and $425 to $700 for a high-cycle pair. Extension springs run $200 to $350 a pair with safety cables. Prices are quoted on site before any work starts.

The door made a bang and won't open. Can I pull the red cord and lift it?

No. The bang was the spring, and without it the door is dead weight, 150 to 250 pounds. Pulling the release leaves you holding it, and if the door is open it drops. Call; it's a same-day repair.

Why did my opener die after the storm?

A surge through the power line or the low-voltage sensor wiring took out the logic board. It's the most common opener failure in Central Florida. We price a board against a new battery-backup opener and tell you which makes sense.

Do I need a permit to replace a garage door?

Yes, in both the City of Ocala and unincorporated Marion County. The City treats door replacement as structural work requiring a permit and inspection even after the 2026 exemption law, and the County requires the installer's competency card. Repairs need no permit. We pull it.

Is my door hurricane-rated?

Look inside the door for a label with positive and negative psf pressures and a test standard such as ANSI/DASMA 108. No label almost always means no rating. A rated door matters because a failed garage door pressurizes the house and lifts the roof.

Does my HOA have to approve a new door?

In The Villages, the SR 200 communities, Summerfield's gated communities and most newer subdivisions, yes: style, color and windows, and often screens. We send the submittal before ordering.

Will a new door lower my insurance?

A door with a documented wind rating can earn an opening-protection credit on a wind mitigation inspection, and garage doors are an eligible improvement under My Safe Florida Home, which pays $2 per $1 up to $10,000 for eligible homes when funded. Ask your agent which rating they credit.

Can you fix a golf-cart garage door?

Yes. They're smaller and simpler, but the springs, cables and openers fail the same way, and the cart's bumper finds the bottom section regularly.

Do you work in The Villages?

Yes, all three counties and every district, with the ARC paperwork handled for new doors and screens. Give the gate our name.

Can you replace just one dented panel?

Usually, if the manufacturer still makes that section. The technician identifies the door and checks; when it's discontinued or two or more sections are damaged, a new door is nearly always the better buy.

Do you really answer at night?

Yes, 24 hours a day, every day, including hurricane nights. A technician calls back to schedule, the same day for a door that won't open or close.

Door stuck, spring snapped, opener dead?

Same-day service across Ocala, Marion County, The Villages and Lady Lake. The technician tells you the price before any work starts, and estimates on new doors and openers are free.
