Paying for a garage door you didn't plan on

Most garage doors get replaced because something broke, not because anyone budgeted for it. Here's how people in Ocala pay, what financing we can connect you with, what the state grant covers, and what insurance does and doesn't.

Paying on completion

Repairs, which is most of what we do, are paid on completion by card, check or bank transfer, at the price the technician quoted before starting. A new door may carry a deposit when a custom size, color or impact-rated door is ordered, as written on the estimate, with the balance due when it's installed and inspected.

Financing

For a new door, a hurricane-rated upgrade or a door-and-opener package, we can connect you with third-party home-improvement financing with fixed monthly payments. Approval, rates and terms are set by the lender, not by us. Ask at the estimate and we'll include the details with your price.

My Safe Florida Home

Florida's hurricane mitigation program lists garage doors among its eligible opening-protection improvements and reimburses $2 for every $1 you spend, up to $10,000, with no match required for low-income homeowners, for an owner-occupied homestead with an insured value of $700,000 or less and an original building permit before 2008, after a program inspection. Funding depends on each year's budget and applications open and close; check the program's site for the current status. We provide the label, the product approval and the permit the claim needs.

Insurance

Homeowners insurance generally doesn't cover a spring that wore out or a door that rusted with age. It may cover a door damaged by a sudden covered event, such as a storm, a fallen tree or a vehicle, less the deductible; a car backing into the door is often the auto policy's property-damage coverage. Photograph the damage and ask your adjuster; we provide dated photos and an itemized estimate when it helps a claim. A new wind-rated door can also earn an opening-protection credit on a wind mitigation inspection; ask your agent which rating they credit before you choose the door.

HOA letters

If your community's architectural committee or deed-compliance office has asked you to repair or replace a door, bring the letter; we'll price exactly what it asks for and send the submittal.

Reports and letters

When a buyer, a lender, an HOA or an inspector wants a written opinion on a door's condition or its wind rating, we'll write it with photos and the label details for a small flat fee, credited toward any work.
